Dear Birches Academy Families and Supporters -

Nine years ago, I took a leap of faith and joined ten amazing women to create this amazing school. Not only am I a proud Founder but both of my children attended The Birches Academy since the school began and graduated after eight wonderful years. The growth and wonder my children experienced here makes me want to ensure that other families have a choice when educating their children. The Board of Trustees is excited and energized to kick off our capital campaign to raise $250,000 for a down payment for a new facility. Our ambitious goal allows The Birches Academy to continue its stellar arts-integrated education to all 225 children that enter our doors.

WHAT IS THE TREEHOUSE CAMPAIGN?

We have established a capital campaign with a goal to raise $250,000 by November 2020. Accomplishing this means The Birches Academy will secure the necessary down payment for a new facility.  With the purchase of our own building, we will eliminate the exorbitant lease expense and replace it with an equity-building monthly mortgage. Reducing this cost allows us to pay teachers a more competitive salary, leading to less staff turnover and the potential to hire additional administrative staff to support our teachers, students, and parents.

WHY are we doing this?

The Birches Academy’s innovative and exhilarating approach to education has made us the successful school we are today.  We received glowing reviews from the NH Department of Education on our first five years and a momentous renewal of our charter in 2017.  Of the total 28 charter schools in New Hampshire, the Birches Academy was recognized by the NH Department of Education in 2019 as one of only 6 brick-and-mortar schools that are considered a model for replication or expansion.

Looking ahead, we know that in order to not only meet but exceed the needs of our students, The Birches Academy must move to a larger space.  In order to avoid renewing our lease which expires in 2022, we need a location that will provide our students with more room to explore nature and the world outside, our parents with additional space to enjoy music concerts and school plays, and our teachers with larger classrooms to further enhance creative, student-centered learning.

While a building does not necessarily improve education, larger facilities and more robust outdoor space will enhance the student’s educational and social experience and growth.  As an arts integrated school, dedicated space for art displays will showcase the vast skills of our students, while additional space for art equipment will allow students to take part in more advanced pursuits such as pottery or sculpture.  Flexible space would allow for a dedicated lunchroom and for students to gather for small group music lessons, band practice, and tutoring. We will plan for additional parking for multi-functional school events as our current commercial location is shared with other businesses and parking is often difficult at school functions.
